What Are Chakras?

The Sanskrit word Chakra literally translates to wheel or disk.

In Reiki, Yoga, Meditation and Ayurveda, this term refers to wheels of energy throughout the body.  We have seven of these wheels of energy located in our body. They start at the base of the spine leading to the crown of our heads.

These swirling wheels of energy link to massive nerve centre’s in the body. Each of the seven main chakras contains bundles of nerves and major organs. Not only that but they also hold our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being.

It is imperative to keep these energy centres healthy and working effectively. Since everything is moving, it’s vital that our seven main chakras stay open, aligned, and fluid. If there is an obstruction, energy cannot flow.

Think of something as simple as your bathtub drain. If you allow too much hair to go into the drain, the bathtub will back up with water, stagnate and ultimately bacteria and mould will grow. So is too with our bodies and the chakras. A bathtub is simple; it’s physical so the fix is easy.

Simple Ways To Make Sure The Energy Is Flowing

Guided meditation is a great way to relax the body but also helps you zone in on your chakras and assess what needs attention. There are some great meditations available on youtuve for chakra cleansing and realignment.

Closing your eyes and visualising balls of coloured energy in each relevant chakra will also help balance and energise.

Using herbs such as sage to burn around yourself after meditation or even just daily in the morning and evening, can help cleanse your aura and chakras.

Having a shower and visualising the water cleansing you inside and out, washing away all the stagnate energy you have picked up throughout the day.

Here’s What Each Chakra Represents
