Do You Love Yourself?
Yes! Well that should be the answer! Self-love and self-care should be on everyone’s ‘To Do’ list, more importantly it should be on our ‘I do it regularly’ list. However, for most men and women looking after number one doesn’t even make the short list.
Love is a word that carries a lot of weight, whether it be an exchange with a partner, the unconditional love with a pet, the love of a hobby, interest, food etc. But it’s a word we aren’t always willing to use when talking about ourselves.
In this article I am going to discuss some ideas on why self-love is blinking important! Not just important but essential to really leading a life that is not just physically ‘well’ but mentally too.
Do you find yourself judging the way you look daily? Questioning your own choices? Wishing things were different in your home? Wanting more from your everyday life?
Yes? I would expect most people would say yes. Why? Because in a world where our home/work life balance sometimes tilts more one way than the other we rarely get time to really focus on ourselves. Not just that but unfortunately a lot of us spend our days comparing our lives to others on social media, on the news, in the magazines etc.
So, I want you to make the month of February not about showing love to everyone else but all about telling yourself how great you are, how fantastic a parent you are, how good you look in that outfit…I could go on.
We all find it hard to talk about what we think we are good at and that’s a shame because focusing on the good, the positive, the fruitful will not just mean we feel better but also means ‘The Law of Attraction’ comes into play (now that’s a discussion for another article)
However, if you are interested in knowing more about ‘The Law of Attraction’ I recommend reading the book ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne.
Anyway, back to the task in hand, you don’t get away with it that easily. Here are a few things that I recommend you try for the next 4 weeks.
1 – Tonight before you go to bed write a list of three things you do LIKE/LOVE about yourself. Whether that be a physical thing, a skill you have, a hidden talent etc. Then when you wake up in the morning, read this list 3 times over, ideally out loud. Then repeat again just before going to sleep. Do these for seven days. Then add another 3 things to the list. Keep going for the next couple of weeks.
2 – Grab yourself some rose quartz crystal. This precious stone is all about love, unconditional, maternal, nurturing and self-indulgent love! Carry it around with you, put it under your pillow or next to your bed. Grab it and hold onto it when you are feeling a little blue! It’s a beautiful crystal with a whole heap of power.
3 – Buy something yellow! Yellow is renowned for its ability to lift the spirits, boost happy hormones and raise our energy levels! A beautiful bunch of yellow flowers in your hallway or lounge will really lift your spirits and brighten the area they are in! If its not flowers you are into, then even a luxurious yellow cushion, throw, ornament, blouse etc.
4 – Spending just 5-10 minutes a day being ‘mindful’ can help you think more clearly and positively. This positive activity will allow you to feel more in control, more level headed etc. There are so many apps, websites and books about mindfulness that you can’t escape it right now and you shouldn’t try to escape it! I highly recommend the following apps, Calm and Headspace. There are also some great youtubers out there who can guide you through a mindfulness session, try out, Jason Stephenson, The Honest Guys and Michael Sealey.
5 – Don’t just do all the above once, repeat these steps regularly and raise that self-love level through the roof!
