Essential Oils For You And Your Family

Essential oils for you and your family

First things first what I want to say is none of what I suggest here replaces medical intervention, yes, these oils can be complementary and beneficial, but they are just that, complementary of any other health care you are having.

With that in mind I just want to say that please always be careful when using pure essential oils as some people may experience reactions to oils so always double check what you are using and who you are using it on!

So inevitably at this time families, households may be experiencing low mood and low energy.

Not only can we put some of this down to the current situation BUT what does have an effect to is the low levels of day light.

Seasonal affective disorder can affect up to 1 in 3 people here in the uk and whilst vitamin d supplements and natural daylight are the first things that can help, essential oils can also help trigger our happy hormones and boost energy levels.

My top recommendations to diffuse around the home are Peppermint…. this uplifting and fresh oil can help with fatigue, improve our mood and boost our energy levels. It’s also great for opening up the airwaves during cold season!

Citrus oils like lemon and orange can also have a great effect on our ability to get moving and motivated. Ideal diffused in mid-afternoon when energy levels start to drop and our focus needs realigning.

There is a preblended oil from Neals yard that you can also diffuse called optimism – this specially blended mix of black pepper, grapefruit and jasmine is the ideal boost for an extra bit of confidence and positivity.

Another emotion you or your family members maybe feeling right now is anxiety.

The sense of unknowing and uncertainty at the moment can cause even the most grounded of individuals to feel some anxious moments, anxiety can present itself in many ways, may it be generalised worry, emotional outbursts or a feeling of nausea and sometimes being sick there are a vast array of symptoms.

To help ease some of these anxious thoughts diffusing essential oils such as bergamot, chamomile, lavender and vetiver can be a great way to ease anxiety.

You can use a few drops of lavender on a tissue to inhale from or even a couple of drops in your bath too.

As many of you know because I probably mention it all the time and I’m surprised I am only just mentioning it now Frankincense is one of my personal favourite oils BUT also another great oil to help ground, balance and stabilise an overactive anxious mind.

A blend of frankincense, lavender and bergamot in a carrier oil can be a very effective massage lotion for depression and anxiety.

Neals yard also do a pre blended oil called ‘calming’ which is safe to use around children too – it’s a specially combined blend of chamomile, bergamot and mandarin is ideal for creating that calm and soothing atmosphere.

Focus and concentration in children……and adults!

Home schooling, toy distractions, mum and dad working from home, pets to play with can all add up to children struggling with adjusting to life right now.

The fantastic brand Neals Yard have a specific pre blended oil that is targeted towards focus……funnily enough it’s called ‘Focus’.

This pre blended oil of rosemary spearmint and orange is the perfect blend when you or the children are struggling with motivation and focus. Diffused around the working/desk area this uplifting fragrance brings clarity and sharpens the mind.

Singularly you can diffuse rosemary oil which is great for concentration…. try adding a few drops of basil oil to it too it’s great for boosting memory function, it can help improve alertness and reduce symptoms of brain fog.

Finally, the last subject I want to cover is sleep issues.

Restlessness and sleepless nights …. who’s been suffering? All of the things I’ve already mentioned can have an effect on our sleep patterns, anxiety, stress, work, general day to day life, diet, exercise the list goes on.

However, there are some essential oils that you can use to help drift off to a good night’s sleep.

Most of you will have already heard of the joy of lavender oil to help with sleep, a few drops on your pillow at night, a couple in your bath, diffused in your bedroom…. its blinking beautiful and really great to help your sleep pattern.

However, I want to tell you a bit more about some of the lesser-known oils that are equally as effective.

Beautiful chamomile is naturally calming, deeply restful and great for soothing the emotions, it blends perfectly with mandarin or rose and is safe to be diffused around children over the age of 2.

Neroli is another relaxing fragrance that is brilliant for sending you off to the land of nod. A couple of drops in the palms of your hands, inhale deeply and relax.

Sandalwood is another beautifully indulgent, earthy and slightly hedonistic oil that has been revered for thousands of years. Great for relaxation, sleep and meditation this oil is a treat for the senses.

Neals yard do some fantastic products specifically for helping with insomnia and restless.

They have a fantastic goodnight pillow spray, night-time roller ball blend and a night-time pre blended oil to diffuse too.
